RED REISHI

In nature, the Red Reishi mushroom is found growing at the base and stumps of deciduous trees, primarily maple, but is very rarely found making the commercial cultivation of this mushroom so popular. The Reishi mushroom is also known as the “mushroom of immortality” due to its ability to support cardiovascular health, support energy and stamina, and also support the body’s natural ability to respond to stress. For these reasons, it is the #1-selling nutraceutical mushroom in the world.

My Fungi Recipe – Red Reishi Dual Extraction

Ingredients:
– Fresh Red Reishi
– 80 Proof Alcohol
– Spring Water

Equipment:
– Mason Jar (size dependant on how much mushrooms you have)
– Mesh Strainer or Cheesecloth
– Cooking Pot
– Tincture Bottles for storage

Directions:
– Slice the Reishi as thin as possible
– Load the Reishi into your mason jar and fill with alcohol until it is approx 3 cm from the top
– Allow the Reishi to sit in the alcohol for at least 2 weeks, shaking the jar daily
– Strain the mushrooms from the alcohol solution and place the mushrooms into a pot (take note of the quantity of your alcohol solution)
– Add about 1 litre of water to the pot per every cup of mushrooms you have
– Simmer the mushrooms on low for 2 hours (do not let the pot boil dry)
– The water extract should be reduced to about 1/3 of your alcohol solution (if your alcohol totaled 3 cups your water should be 1 cup)
– Combine the alcohol and water and mix thoroughly (The 3:1 ratio is to make the tincture shelf stable)
– Store in a cool dark place (we recommend amber tincture bottles)
